Montserrat Rodríguez defines Estados de dolor, or states of pain, as psychoanalytic research into pain and art which takes a look at the subjectivism of loss and observes processes revealing differing responses to trauma. Estados de dolor was initially published in preliminary electronic form in 2009, exhibited alongside artworks by Javier Codesal and Alex Francés at the Puertas de Castilla Cultural Centre. During the exhibition, the text was updated through the processes of reading and copying. The current version of Estados de dolor is the result of that research based on a brand of writing in which the concepts came from the encounter between the formless question and the epistemic form.
