The library is the core and raison d'étrè for CENDEAC and has the main aim to produce a collection as complete and varied as possible that allows quality studies about all disciplines that shape the art scene during 20th and 21st centuries.
The CENDEAC library is on the second floor of the Centre. It offers free access and a collection of over 10.000 documents of theory, art history, architecture, photography, exhibition catalogues, artist monographs and a subscription to over 30 internationally renowned art journals.
Library opening hours
Monday to Friday. Mornings, 10.00 am to 02.00 pm and afternoons, 04.00 to 08.00 pm.
Services
The library offers 20 reading posts as well as equipment for Internet access and watching audiovisual material.
Users can obtain reproductions of books, documents, regular publications, leaflets and graphic materials by means of photocopiers (there is a self service at the disposal of users) and scanners.
Collection
The collection of CENDEAC is currently growing and being catalogued. Electronic cataloguing and on-line access to library OPAC is being carried out in collaboration with Murcia Regional Library.
The collection is organized in the following sections:
Reference books: dictionaries, encyclopaedias, museum guides and museum studies.
General: general contemporary art monographs, divided in general books, topics and countries.
Movements: monographs devoted to the study of the most significant movements before and after the Second World War (Abstract art, Cubism, Realism, Expressionism, Surrealism, Feminism, Conceptual art, Minimalism, etc.)
Theory and criticism: essay texts on several aspects of contemporary creation. Special interest in Philosophy, Aesthetics and Critic Theory.
Catalogues and artist monographs: works devoted to the study of exceptional figures in contemporary arte since the end of the 19th century, from Manet to Bill Viola.
Collective exhibition catalogues: works relating to theme exhibitions internationally shown, collections of museums and exhibition centres.
Photograph: monographs devoted to the history and theory of photography as well as to the most outstanding photographers in the 20th and 21st centuries. Also, photograph exhibition catalogues.
Architecture: monographs devoted to the history and theory of architecture as well as to the most outstanding architects in the 20th and 21st centuries.
Design: monographs that study industrial design and its complex relationships with contemporary plastic arts.
Regional art: catalogues, essays and monographs devoted to the study of modern and contemporary art developed in the Region of Murcia.
Regular publications: subscription to contemporary art theory, history and criticism journals and visual culture ones such as: Amínima, American Art, Arco. Inter-library loan
CENDEAC has an inter-library loan service in order to exchange and obtain documents from other libraries and reference centres. Through this service, libraries and reference centres can ask for documents to CENDEAC and vice versa.
Purchase suggestions
This service allows users to suggest the purchase of items for the collection (books, journals, videos, DVDs, CDs, etc.) relating to the Centre disciplines.
To suggest new purchases you can write to: documentacion@CENDEAC.net indicating author, title, publishing house, place and date of publication of the document together with the purpose of the suggestion (research, reference.). Suggestions will be considered by our Centre and, if appropriate, processed for action.
