Heterochronies. Time, art and archaeologies of the present

28/01/2008 – 14/03/2008

Heterochronies. Time, art archaeologies of the present
January-March.
7.30 pm

Heterochronies, is an attempt to reflect on the co-existence of different temporalities within contemporary artistic practices. Against the idea of a lineal historical development, according to which artistic media and content, evolve in a continuous and teleological fashion, it is increasingly necessary to turn towards other ways of thinking the relationship between history and artistic practices: returns, lost paths, anachronisms, recuperations, cohabitations, etc.  In this sense, archaeology servers as the paradigm of an anachronistic temporality. If the hybridisation of the arts was often seen as a distinctive feature of postmodernity, we might now be living in a moment that calls for the hybridisation of temporalities. Quite often, in looking back at paths not taken, we can find alternative routes out of the cul-de-sacs of contemporary artistic practice. Against the single time of globalisation, it is urgent to think of the dispersed times of heterochrony, of fractures in the dominant time and of the possible emergence of temporalities of resistance.
