Lecture by Liliana Porter

08/01/2009

Thursday, 8th January 2009. 7:30 p.m.

Liliana Porter (Buenos Aires,1941) is an Argentinean artist who has been based in New York since the mid-sixties. Her work often uses everyday, seemingly innocent objetos (plastic dolls, cuddly toys, souvenirs, kitchen utensils, etc.) that she manipulates and subtly resignifies, allowing for other possible readings that, nevertheless, remain utterly ambiguous.
Porter works across different media: from photography and video, to engravings, assemblages, installation or painting, maintaining throughout a professional coherence that has allowed her to claim a singular space in the international arena. Porter has had numerous solo shows worldwide, including the exhibition Situaciones y Diálogos at the Palacio Aguirre in Cartagena in 2004 and at the Espacio AV in Murcia in 2005 http://www.espacioav.es/veronicas/index.php?e=29).

Liliana Porter’s talk at CENDEAC will be an opportunity to familiarise ourselves with her work as well as to gain an insight into the way in which she approaches her own artistic practice.

Free entry.
The lecture will take place in Spanish only.
